To the casual outside observer it would have appeared that we did not do very much this past weekend. On Saturday, for example, it would seem that Jack and I did not do much more than watch Saturday morning cartoons, drink copious amounts of liquid -- coffee for me and juice for the boy, visit with Grandma and Aunt Peggy and putz around the house.
But if you looked closer, you would see that we were actually starting some potty training.
A few weeks ago while taking a bath, Jack stood up and starting peeing; a la Manneken Pis. I grabbed the cup we use for rinsing and caught the flow. I made a huge deal out of it and told him that's exactly what you do when you pee the pot. Now every time he takes a bath he grabs the cup, holds it under his junk and pees.
While trying to wrangle him into his jammies he told me he had to pee. So we rushed into the bathroom and found the cup, held up to his bits and pieces and waited. Nothing happened. So he said "it's not working."
Since we had all of Saturday to our selves (Jeff was playing softball ) I thought it was a good time to test Jack's peeing skills. I pumped him full of juice and let him go without a diaper all morning. He peed five times! He told me he had to go, we ran into the bathroom, he did his business and he got a treat.
I think we'll skip the whole peeing while sitting learning phase and go directly to aiming into big pot.
Anyway, I'm proud of my big boy and our unconventional potty training method.
