Daniel the Spaniel

Julie told the funniest story about Daniel at Sunday dinner this week. Daniel became very concerned about having money to buy Christmas gifts for his two sisters. He wanted money now so that he could buy presents now. With more than a months time away from Christmas, his parents told him there wasn't money now but in a few weeks he would be given money to buy what ever he wanted for his sisters. That didn't suit Daniel. He asked how he could get money now. He answered his own question by saying he could sell stuff. So he scaled the kitchen drawers and counters to find his Halloween candy stash on top of the refrigerator. He put all of his candy in a bag and said he'd go door to door in the neighborhood selling his candy. Daniel's first customer was his Dad and one piece of candy was $5. Of course, Dad said no and that $5 for a piece of candy was highway robbery. A few minutes later, Daniel found his second customer, his mom; the price per piece: $3.

Daniel is four years old and he's already an entrepreneur. There are two things that get me about this story, he wanted money for toys not for himself but for his sisters and when he was told no he found a way around the roadblock.

Julie was on bed rest in the hospital in the days before Daniel was born; premature and so, so tiny. He stayed in the hospital for some time before gaining enough weight to come home. He's usually the smallest kid in the crowd; his little sister is just as tall as he is. But, I've always said that Daniel will surprise us, he's the one to watch out for. Now I think there is a new way Daniel will surprise us; he's always thinking.

Did I mention that Daniel is our god son? We beam with pride.
